-Exterior Wood Care-
We can take your deck from ordinary to beautiful just like we did with this deck in Bargersville,IN. This deck was cleaned then finished in WTW-Brown Sugar.
We have shown our knowledge on wood care to a leader in wood care products, gaining us certification! Wolman has been making wood care products for over 80 years! Dr. Karl Wolman actually invented the Pressure treated process in the 1920's.

Damaging affects of weather on wood !!
Wood needs protection from the elements. Why? All species of wood are vulnerable to weather. The affects of weather begin immediately!! Water absorbed causes the wood to soften and swell. Direct heat exposure from the Sun cause the wood to dry out and shrink! These constant cycle changes over time cause the wood to crack and worse split, cup or warp all leading to repairs. See below... Is your wood gray? This is caused by UV rays from the Sun and is like a sunburn. Except it is permanent damage to the surface fibers of the wood. Over time the wood can get darker and darker. This usually happens over a period of years. Most property owners do not consider it attractive. It can be removed to reveal healthy fibers underneath. Did you know Redwood and Cedar can gray as quickly as 30 days! Horizontal surfaces such as decks receive from 40-50% more direct Sun exposure. The top of the deck can be as much as 50 degrees hotter than the underside. They also are exposed to foot traffic, furniture, ground in dirt and various stains. Pressure treatment is a process of chemical injection into the wood. This actually makes the wood surface more porous and more vulnerable to the affects of water! This type of wood needs protected also. About 80% of decks are constructed of pressure treated wood(usually Pine). Although it does protect from insect attack, it does not protect against water or UV exposure. Restoration
Restoration of wood involves either cleaning or stripping the surface. If the wood on your deck is uncoated, it needs to be cleaned thoroughly with a product specifically formulated to gently remove the aged top surface layer, which will rid the surface of its grayed appearance, ground-in dirt and stains from food splatters and fungus growth, including mildew, mold and algae. If your deck has been previously coated with a varnish or colored stain, stripping will be required.
Do not use chlorine bleach alone to clean / restore outdoor wood. It will interfere with a coating’s adhesion and penetration, and will not completely remove ground-in dirt or the weathered gray surface fibers that make the surface look aged and soiled. Products specifically formulated to: A) loosen and lift degraded surface fibers and other surface contaminates and B) remove stains from wood extractives and fungal growth are recommended for optimal surface restoration.
Why is it necessary? Restoration of uncoated wood requires cleaning, as uncoated wood on your deck that is weathered gray or covered with embedded dirt and fungus growth will prevent a coating from adhering or penetrating properly, which can lead to premature color fading, cracking and peeling, or reduced water repellency performance. Once cleaned, however, the wood surface on your deck will be restored to its natural, like-new appearance, and will be ready to accept a protective coating. Previously varnished or stained wood will not accept a different type (water-base over oil-base) or color of coating without risk of performance failure and color bleed-through, and therefore, should be stripped in order to be restored.
For New Wood: Prepare the Surface! What is involved exactly? Just as in the restoration of old wood, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the new wood before coating. Preparing the surface involves cleaning the brand new, uncoated surface in order to remove invisible surface barriers, such as excess wax found on pressure-treated wood, or mill glaze, a burnished surface often present on new Cedar lumber. Why is it necessary? Brand new lumber that has been processed at a lumber mill (either pressure-treated or simply de-barked, planed and cut) will contain excess internal moisture and surface wax, or possibly a glazed surface that will prevent a coating from adhering or penetrating properly. By cleaning the surface, invisible barrier wax or mill glaze is removed, and wood pores are unclogged and opened, allowing trapped moisture to escape, which minimizes cracking and splitting before and after coating.
Why choose a maintenance program?
Preserve your wood's beauty and structural integrity by following through with a regular maintenance program. It will provide that always fresh look with maximum protection and will certainly save money over the long term. Here's how it works:
After the first year we will come out to inspect the structure , perform some tests and note any maintenance that may need to be addressed. Also, a gentle cleaning will performed. Every second year we advise a cleaning and light re-coat of the finish. This will keep your deck always looking its very best. Also, recoating the deck before the original finish starts failing will save you alot of money in materials and labor.
